Madhur Bhandarkar’s Dil To Baccha Hai Ji is a romantic comedy which deals with life of three house mates and their love voyage supported by several other comic characters. The film is more or less fragmentend into small parts depicting urbane lives of Naren Ahuja (Ajay Devgan), Abby or Abhay (Emraan Hashmi), and Milind Kelker (Omi Vaidya). The beginning of the film makes little sense which gains pace at the end. The three stories run simultaneously based on same line but with different senarios . We have seen films like this before several times. The story line is bleak and the end is rather predictable.
I am not a big fan of Ajay Devgan’s comedy. His horse voice and serious caricature suits more of his serious characters. Ajay Devgan is a 38 year old banker going through divorce. He surrounded by stereotypical Indian office with rather witty colleagues. Ajay Devgan utilizes his excellent acting skills to superbly play life of a man in mid-life crisis. June Pinto (Shazahn Padamsee) joins Ajay Devgan. She is a bubbly girl, often dreamed by dreaming young men, in her 20s. Ajay devgan has a crush on her and rest of the story revolves around generation gap.
Emraan Hashmi as always plays a charming boy; Deja vu – yeah i had it too. Hashmi can be found wooing rich and boring business women, to maintain his life style, in the clubs of Mumbai. His days are spent on the rich women’s riches. His free spirit is stuck by another freerer spirit Nikki Narang (Shruti Haasan) from New York and she is the daughter of his current socialite and business woman date Anushka Narang (Tisca Chopra). Hashmi gets confused and fell pray to idea of daughter over mother. Nikki Narang enjoys her time with Hashmi and leaves him in love to her casual life but serious social service career.
Milind Kelkar is a marathi lad who works at a marriage bureau and his love is a radio talk show host Gungun Sarkar (Shraddha Das). He writes remixes of poetry. Gungun is an aspiring artist trying to survive glitz of bollywood town. She makes sure that Milind takes good care of her social life which Milind does as he believes in true love. And true love only knows to give. Milind brings his 3 idiots style to Dil to Baccha Hai Ji which i am sure movie lovers cherished.
Attributes and facial expression suited Ajay Devgan’s character. Hashmi never got to do any acting, we all can be great actors if allowed to show our attitudes. Omi Vaidy’s 3 Idiots style did work in the film but he needs to make sure that people don’t get used to it . All three actresses did very well. Some of the songs like Beshuba, Abhi Kuch Dino se and Jadugari are my personal favorites. Music is very similar to other albums of Pritam like Life in a Metro.
Madhur Bhandarkar defenitely needs to accept all aspects of society. People have been shown in poor light. The culture of Bollywood town and India’s financial capitol does host the conservative ties of Indian culture. The film show women as a career oriented and not concerned with societal moral standards which are often something to boast about but never followed. The people are shown generally sad and alone but film leaves you with life goes on smile.
